How many seasons are you in right now?

The drizzly fall day outside my window is just one of the many seasons I’m in.

I’m typing this post with my right hand and my left thumb, thanks to surgery I had last month to repair ruptured tendons on my left hand. My next Christmas in Redemption Ridge book, Matchmaking the Cowboy, is about 3 weeks from releasing. Earlier today, I took a training hosted by my publisher. (Have you heard I have one of those now? It’s a little surreal!) Plus, it is an election year, and the Northern Lights have been happening by me, and I’m concerned for those impacted by the hurricanes.

Each of these is a season, and there are more that I’m working my way through besides. I’m sure you could list a few seasons you’re experiencing yourself.

Sometimes it’s comforting to remember that so many things are just passing seasons. Sometimes, it’s a little melancholy. Sometimes, it’s both at once.

As a Christ follower, I go through spiritual seasons too. I can be on fire, or I can be disillusioned, or more likely, I find myself somewhere in between.

What I have noticed and want to remind us both of, is that God’s love isn’t seasonal.

Granted, sometimes in the thick of a hard season, I don’t feel Him close or understand what He’s doing. I need reminders like the one Hollis’s mom doles out in Matchmaking the Cowboy:

She tipped her head. “Only God won’t let you down.”

Now he looked away. Swallowed hard. Hollis certainly felt let down by his dad’s death and by the ranches finances, both of which God could have changed.

Mom must have read His doubts in his expression because she continued. “I know in the face of some things it doesn’t seem that way. But during those seasons we can look back on ways we’ve seen God’s faithfulness in the past—in our own lives, in Scripture—and choose faith no matter what our circumstances are telling us.” She looked wistfully around, and her voice lowered. “God is good, son.”

Amen. He is always faithful.

If you’re in one of those tough seasons right now, it’s my prayer that you would sense Him leading you through with His faithful, unfailing love. Whatever else changes, His love for you will not.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23:6, ESV

What’s a little covert matchmaking between friends?

Lucy Aveline’s ex has a knack for making her feel small and helpless. She’d avoid him entirely, but he still owns a piece of her heart in the form of the pets he purchased for her but kept for himself. She visits Rosie and Jasmine when she can, vows to avoid another controlling boyfriend by staying single, and focuses on her large animal veterinary practice. Or that’s the plan until some longtime family friends attempt to set her up with former rodeo star Hollis Price. Lucy convinces them to drop the plot only when she promises to find Hollis a good match herself.

Hollis is more concerned with surviving his first Christmas after losing his dad than with finding love. Dad’s champion horse is aging, and rumors started by an unhappy client threaten the horse training business Hollis inherited from his father. When the kind and talented Lucy offers friendship, he accepts simply to add cheer to the season.

It’s not long before his interest in Lucy deepens, but so do problems at his ranch. Saving his father’s legacy begins to look as impossible as earning Lucy’s trust. Especially when her ex continues to use her love of animals against her and she won’t stop pushing her single friends at Hollis long enough to notice she’s the one he’s falling for.

Return to Redemption Ridge, Colorado and enjoy the faith, friendships, and forever-afters in this Christian Christmas Romance. Matchmaking the Cowboy is book 9 in the series but can be read as a standalone.
